Frequently asked questions
- Do I need DEJA.js or DCC-EX already?
- No. Every Digital Dispatcher ships with DCC-EX installed, and with DEJA.js configured when it fits your build. If you already run DCC-EX, the Digital Dispatcher is built to fit what you have.
- What do I have to do when the Digital Dispatcher arrives?
- Mount it, land your track bus and accessory wires on the labeled terminals (diagram included), plug in power, open DEJA.js. That's the job — the building, wiring, and configuring already happened in my shop.
- Can you really run just one section of my layout?
- Yes — a yard, staging, or a single power district is the most common build. It's designed to tie into your existing control for the rest of the railroad.
- What does a Digital Dispatcher cost?
- Every build is quoted from your track plan after a free discovery call — the price depends on turnout count, districts, detection, and signals. You get a fixed written quote before any work starts. Sessions and troubleshooting are simpler: $75/hour.
- How long does a build take?
- Depends on scope and my bench queue — you'll get a realistic date in your quote, and photo updates while it's being built.
- What scales?
- N, HO, and O. The electronics don't care; the Digital Dispatcher is sized to the job.
- I'm not technical. Is this for me?
- That's exactly who it's for. The technical part is my job — you connect labeled wires and run trains. If you can follow a diagram, you can install one of these.
- What if something stops working after delivery?
- Every build ships with documentation and a wiring diagram. If something stops working, book a troubleshooting session — $75/hour, and most issues are a call, not a rebuild.Book a 1:1 session — $75 (opens in a new tab)
- Do you build complete layouts?
- My focus is the control side — electronics, code, wiring, automation. If your project needs benchwork-to-scenery, the discovery call is still the place to start and I'll tell you honestly if I'm not the right fit.
- Where are you / do you travel?
- I'm in Idaho and I ship Digital Dispatchers anywhere in the US. Code, configuration, and troubleshooting are remote by video call, and I travel for hands-on work at your layout.
